Water Regulations: Are you breaking the Law? (28/07/2005)
The Water Supply Regulations have been in force in the United Kingdom for over five years, but many operatives still have to complete a form of recognised assessment, in order to self certificate work. Colchester Institute offers the BPEC Water Regulation Certification Scheme which is a nationally recognised qualification. In conjunction with an appropriate NVQ Level 2 or Craft Certificate, this qualification would enable operatives to obtain Water Authority approval throughout the UK without the need to undertake individual assessment with each water supply authority. Failure to self certificate any water supply work may mean you are breaking the law!
The approved plumber/contractor scheme run by Anglian Water welcomes members to freely join the scheme to enable self certification of water installations.
Undertaking the BPEC Water Regulations course requires the operative to self study course material at home prior to attendance at college. On the day of the course, delegates will begin with course updates and revision training in the morning, followed by the BPEC assessment in the afternoon.
Unvented Domestic Hot Water Supplies
Unvented Domestic Hot Water Systems were introduced to the United Kingdom in 1985; twenty years on and some systems are beginning to show signs of ageing. You may want to consider, therefore, whether it is time to include servicing and maintenance of these systems as part of your commitment to meeting your
customer needs. A dangerous system can have devastating consequences as it may result in loss of an insurance claim for the home owner, especially where a faulty un-maintained system is the cause.
It is a requirement under Part G of the Building Regulations that all operatives are competent and hold an appropriate certificate for working on Unvented Domestic Hot Water supplies.
The Professional Training Centre offers one day training and assessment through a well developed BPEC registration scheme. To date we have had a 100% success rate for operatives on this programme. With self certification of systems and mandatory regulations becoming more and more prevalent, it may be time to
re- consider your needs as the professional mechanical services engineer, ensuring you can offer the best possible service to your client base
