| Duration: | 14 days over a 12 month period from 4.00 pm to 8.00 pm every 3 weeks at PTC or on an assessment only basis for students who are studying for, or completed the Certificate in Site Supervisory Studies. |
Introduction:
This qualification is developed by the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) and the Edexcel Foundation (BTEC). The course is primarily aimed at people already working in a supervisory or management role within the construction industry. To achieve this qualification, supervisors or managers have to provide satisfactory evidence of their management skills, as well as their technical knowledge and competence in the workplace and ability in supervising or managing a construction operation. The competences contained within the NVQ are at the core of CSCS registration. CSCS cards will ultimately be attained through achievement of the relevant NVQ.
Who the course is aimed at:
Suitable for both established construction site supervisors, and those who are developing their abilities in this occupation. Including mature students with no formal qualifications.
Course content (Building & Civil Engineering):
All the following units must be acheived:
- Maintain systems for health, safety, welfare and environmental protection
- Assess and recommend work methods
- Plan work activities and resources to meet work requirements
- Co-ordinate work control
- Control work progress against agreed programmes
- Allocate and moniter the use of plant equipment or machinery
- Maintain supplies of materials to meet project requirements
- Implement communication systems for the project
- Maintain the dimensional accuracy of the work
- Control work against agreed quality standards
- Contribute to controlling work quantities and costs
- Co-ordinate preparation for site operations
- Allocate work and check people's performance
- Develop and maintain good working relationships
Course content (Residential Development):
All the following units must be acheived:
- Maintain systems for health, safety, welfare and environmental protection
- Assess and recommend work methods
- Plan work activities and resources to meet work requirements
- Co-ordinate work control
- Control work progress against agreed programmes
- Allocate and moniter the use of plant equipment or machinery
- Maintain supplies of materials to meet project requirements
- Implement communication systems for the project
- Maintain the dimensional accuracy of the work
- Control work against agreed quality standards
- Hand over property
- Provide customer service in construction
Two of the following units must be acheived:
- Contribute to controlling work quantities and costs
- Co-ordinate preparation for site operations
- Allocate work and check people's performance
- Develop and maintain good working relationships
Assessment:
During each unit of study you will be asked to produce evidence from the workplace that you are competent at undertaking various tasks. When the work is complete and assessed it will be filed in a portfolio of evidence.

Training method:
Formal lectures, discussions, practical exercises and an explanation of the evidence that will be required.
Course outcome/qualification:
NVQ Level 3 Construction Site Supervision.
Pre-requisite knowledge/qualification:
The course particularly suits mature students with no formal qualifications.
