Duration:	17 evenings over a 12 month period from 4.00 pm to 8.00 pm every 3 weeks at The PTC

Introduction:
This qualification is developed by the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) and the Edexcel Foundation (BTEC). The course is primarily aimed at people already working in a supervisory or management role within the construction industry. To achieve these qualifications, managers have to provide satisfactory evidence of their management skills, as well as their technical knowledge and competence in the workplace and ability in managing construction operations. The competences contained within the NVQ are at the core of CSCS registration. CSCS cards will ultimately be attained through achievement of the relevant NVQ.

Who the course is aimed at:
Suitable for both established contracts managers and those who are developing their abilities in this occupation, including mature students with no formal qualifications.

Course content:

• Manage health and safety welfare and environmental factors
• Manage project risks, opportunities systems and teams
• Control projects
• Manage teams and individuals
• Enhance working relationships and develop staff

There are also a series of optional units which are selected to suit the candidate's particular discipline (Contract Management, Estimating, Contract Surveying, Buying etc).

• Develop and agree a contract brief
• Manage and participate in the preparation, processing and selection of estimates, bids and tenders
• Manage the development and content of a procurement programme
• Manage the planning of work methods, resources and systems to meet contract requirements
• Control contract costs, quality, progress and financial claims
• Manage health, safety, welfare and risk control systems
• Manage customer care requirements and contribute to a marketing strategy and corporate image
• Develop teams, individuals and self
• Develop effective working relationships

Assessment
During each unit of study you will be asked to produce evidence from the workplace that you are competent at undertaking various tasks. When the work is complete and assessed it will be filed in a portfolio of evidence.

Training method:
Formal lectures, discussions, practical exercises and an explanation of the evidence that will be required.

Course outcome/qualification:
NVQ 5 Construction Contracts Management.

Pre-requisite knowledge/qualification:
The course particularly suits mature students with no formal qualifications.

Recommended follow-up course:
NVQ Level 5 exempts the candidate from all CIOB examinations. Following achievement of an NVQ the candidate can undertake the CIOB Professional Interview to achieve full corporate membership.
