NVQ Level 3 Construction Site Supervision

Dates:  Induction Day 20th October 2010 for course commencing on the 15th November 2010

Duration:  Maximum of 17 evenings over an 12 month period from 4.30 pm to 8.30 pm  

Introduction:

This qualification is developed by the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) and the Edexcel Foundation (BTEC). The course is primarily aimed at people already working in a supervisory role within the construction industry. To achieve this qualification, supervisors have to provide satisfactory evidence of their management skills, as well as their technical knowledge and competence in the workplace and ability in supervising a construction operation. The competences contained within the NVQ are at the core of CSCS registration. CSCS cards will ultimately be attained through achievement of the relevant NVQ.

 

Who the course is aimed at:

Suitable for both established construction site supervisors and those who are developing their abilities in this occupation, including mature students with no formal qualifications.

 

Course content for Building and Civil Engineering and Residential Development:

All the following units must be achieved:

  • Maintain systems for health, safety, welfare and environmental protection
  • Assess and recommend work methods
  • Plan work activities and resources to meet work requirements
  • Co-ordinate work control
  • Control work progress against agreed programmes
  • Allocate and monitor the use of plant equipment or machinery
  • Maintain supplies of materials to meet project requirements
  • Implement communication systems for the project 
  • Maintain the dimensional accuracy of the work
  • Control work against agreed quality standards
  • Co-ordinate preparation for site operations
  • Develop and maintain good working relationships

Additional units that must be achieved for Building and Civil Engineering:

  • Contribute to controlling work quantities and costs
  • Allocate work and check people’s performance

Additional units that must be achieved for Residential Development:

  • Hand over property
  • Provide customer service in construction

Assessment:

During each unit of study you will be asked to produce evidence from the workplace that you are competent at undertaking various tasks. When the work is complete and assessed it will be filed in a portfolio of evidence.
