NVQ Level 4 Construction Site Management

(Building and Civil Engineering or Residential Development)

Dates:  Induction day 20 October 2010 for a course starting on the 01 November 2010

Duration: Maximum of 26 evenings over an 18 month period from 4.30 pm to 8.30 pm 

 

Introduction:

This qualification is developed by the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) and the Edexcel Foundation (BTEC). The course is primarily aimed at people already working in a management role within the construction industry. To achieve this qualification, managers have to provide satisfactory evidence of their management skills, as well as their technical knowledge and competence in the workplace and ability in managing a construction operation. The competences contained within the NVQ are at the core of CSCS registration. CSCS cards will ultimately be attained through achievement of the relevant NVQ.

 

Who the course is aimed at:

Suitable for both established construction site managers and those who are developing their abilities in this occupation, including mature students with no formal qualifications.

 

Course content for Building and Civil Engineering and Residential Development:

All the following units must be achieved:

  • Allocate work and check people’s performance
  • Establish control and monitor environmental factors and sustainability
  • Evaluate and select work methods
  • Plan the preparation of the site for the project
  • Ensure that work activities and resources meet project work requirements
  • Identify, allocate and plan the development and use of plant equipment or machinery
  • Organise, control and monitor supplies of materials
  • Establish and monitor communication systems and organisational procedures
  • Establish, dimensional control criteria
  • Evaluate feedback information and recommend improvements
  • Develop and maintain good working relationships
  • Enable learning opportunities
  • Establish, implement and maintain systems for managing health, safety and welfare
  • Monitor project activities
  • Control project progress against agreed quality standards
  • Control project progress against agreed programmes
  • Manage your personal development

Additional units that must be achieved for Building and Civil Engineering:

  • Control project quantities and costs
  • Contribute to the identification of a work team

Additional units that must be achieved for Residential Development:

  • Manage project handover
  • Provide customer service in construction
  • Plan and schedule the maintenance or remedial activities of property, systems or services

Assessment:

During each unit of study you will be asked to produce evidence from the workplace that you are competent at undertaking various tasks. When the work is complete and assessed it will be filed in a portfolio of evidence.
