Introduction:
Training in health and safety is a requirement of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999. Managers and advisors who are appointed to assist management must be ‘suitably and sufficiently trained’ to carry out their role.
It provides valuable underpinning core knowledge for NVQ Level 3 and is seen by many employers as an essential and important base level qualification in Health and Safety.
Course objectives/key benefits:
On completion delegates will be able to:
- Identify the common and obvious hazards in a workplace and to recommend remedial actions
- Investigate accidents (including near misses) and make logical, cost-effective recommendations to prevent re-occurrence
- Identify the main items of Health and Safety legislation that apply to workplaces, including recent regulations and EC Directives
- Recognise the human and organisational problems that must be overcome to achieve a safe and healthy environment
- Use information sources to advise managers of safety matters

Training method:
Flexistudy, 2 x two-hour exam papers which are specified by NEBOSH, practical assessment in the form of a safety inspection report.
Course outcome/qualification:
NEBOSH National General Certificate.
Pre-requisite knowledge/qualification:
If you are new to Health and Safety, especially the legal aspects, we recommend you take the one day Foundation Certificate in Health and Safety course prior to starting the NEBOSH General Certificate.
