Introduction:
This qualification sets the standard for those involved in assessing NVQs. It is designed to be “candidate friendly” and involves extensive one-to-one support for Assessor Candidates.

Course objectives/key benefits:
On completion candidates will be able to:

• Produce an assessment plan
• Assess candidates using differing methods of evidence collection
• Make assessment decisions
• Give constructive feedback
• Assess against national standards
• Contribute to the Internal Quality process

Who the course is aimed at:
Those who are involved in the assessment of NVQs. Candidates are encouraged to work with their own sector specific qualifications.

Course content:

• Candidates are supported by an assessor who works closely with the candidate and assists them as they build a portfolio of evidence. The assessor will visit the candidate in their place of work to observe them and advise on portfolio construction as appropriate.
• Candidates will be expected to attend an induction onto the Award where they will be issued with a portfolio to help with the construction of their own
• Further meetings will be arranged to progress the candidate through the qualification

Course outcome/qualification:

• A1 Assess Candidates’ Using A Range of Methods
• A2 Assess Candidates’ Performance Through Observation

Pre-requisite knowledge/qualification:

• Qualification in the occupational area they will be assessing
• Access to two NVQ candidates

Recommended follow-up course:
The Internal Verifier Award.
